Foot & Hand Reflexology

The ancient Chinese art of reflexology applies to areas of the foot that corresponds to the energy of specific organs and body parts to promote healing and release energy blockages.

Foot reflexology can boost the immune system, increase circulation, cleanse toxins from the body and balance energy. By applying pressure to points in the foot, called "reflex" areas, a reflexologist removes energy blockages and promotes health in the corresponding body area. Pressure on the reflex points opens the channels to improve balance in the nervous system. Endorphin chemicals, which help us to feel good are stimulated, resulting in a reduction in pain and stress.

Those who suffer from tension headaches, stress and anxiety, digestive disorders, arthritis, insomnia, hormone imbalances, circulatory problems, back pain and digestive issues, headaches, migraines, menstruation, menopausal and fertility issues, have reported relief from the integration of foot reflexology into their wellness plan. Studies also have shown that reflexology provides relief from surgical pain, especially for cancer patients.

Finger or thumb pressure is applied to various areas on the foot. The therapist will rub, press and squeeze points on each foot. Kneading the soft and fleshy ball of the foot, pulling on toes, tracing around the heel and pushing deep in the arch of the foot, are all movements for foot reflexology. If sensitivity or tenderness is experienced when an area is stimulated, it usually indicates a weakness or imbalance within the corresponding organ.

To a reflexologist, a "blockage" feels like a grain of sand underneath the skin that may be slightly sensitive to the client. Sometimes, it’s more like an unexplained change in texture or a thickening. For example, if your immune system is compromised- if you're coming down with a cold, are under more than the normal amount of life stress or simply haven't paid careful attention to your diet, your spleen reflex can be a bit spongy or rough.

What to expect from your treatment?

The good thing is you won't need to undress for a reflexology session, as I only work on your feet and
sometimes hands. All you have to do is to take your shoes off and put your feet up and just relax. Your
first session will include a completion of your profile form for health, diet and lifestyle. e.g. current
concern if any, diet and water, sleep and exercise regularity, past operations, medications and other
health problems to be aware of. On the whole, you can expect to feel very relaxed, sleepy and light on
your feet at the end of the session. I work lightly on the feet, as reflexology is not meant to be hard

handed and painful. The reflexes are still worked just as well with a light session. During your session,
you may have some slight uneasiness in an area. It is not really painful at all. It can relate to crystalline
deposits and when worked on will reduce in size allowing the energy to get through via the nerve fibers
to the related organs.

At the end of the session, it is advisable to drink a full glass of water and to continue to drink more water
than usual that day and the next day. This will assist to flush toxins from the body. You may or may not
feel the following side effects as everyone is different and each session may have a different result.

  • Restful sleep

  • More regular bowel movements

  • Increased urination

  • Deep relaxation (your body may need to have a day time nap.... just go with it)

Remember, a Reflexologist is not there to diagnose nor are qualified to diagnose. Reflexology is an opportunity for healing. It is not a substitute for medical treatment.
